How does car leasing work?

How does it work?

When you decide to lease a car, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes. We have work to get done to ensure you get your dream lease car! Let us walk you through the process, so you know everything there is to know about leasing a vehicle.

Choosing your lease car.

This is possibly the hardest part of leasing a car – choosing which model to go with! We have lease cars available for every need, whether that’s a large SUV, petite city car, or something electric. Once you’ve decided on the model, you’ll need to decide on three main factors: how long you want to lease for, how many miles you’d like to cover during your lease, and how much you’d like to pay upfront. You’ll also get the choice of a stock car or a factory order. Factory ordering is a longer process, but you’ll get a car built especially for you, whereas stock cars are much quicker on delivery but won’t be as tailor-made.

It’s completely up to you how you tailor these factors, but they will have an impact on your monthly lease price. For example - the more you pay upfront, the less you pay per month. It’s worth having a good think about your lease terms to ensure you get the most out of your deal, and the motorlet team will always be happy to help you out.

Ordering your lease car

So, you’ve got your eye on a particular model, you’ve had a think about your lease terms, and you’re feeling ready to go ahead. What next? Well, we’ll negotiate the best discounts possible with our car dealership partners and sort you a brilliant deal that will fit your needs. We can get higher discounts than the average customer as we place much bigger orders – think ‘bulk-buy’ savings! We’ll then build you the best lease deal by checking a panel of leasing companies.

Once you’re 100% sure that you’re happy with the deal and the model, we’ll ensure we’ve met all of your requirements in terms of delivery dates and car specifications, and then you’ll be asked to complete an application form for a credit check. This check will be run by the leasing company and, once approved, you’ll then be asked to complete a final order form. This details your vehicle, delivery times, and what’s included. At this point – we’ll send off the order!

Receiving your lease agreement.

At this point, we’ll send you your lease agreement. This is a legal contract between you and the leasing company that you need to check, sign, and return to us. Once you’ve signed this agreement, personal leases enter a 14-day cooling off period (business leases don’t receive a cooling off period). If you cancel your lease order within the 14-days, you’ll receive a refund for any initial payments (minus a processing fee), but you lose the right to a refund after the cooling-off period ends, with some exceptions. Before the car is delivered, you can still cancel your order at any point. You can find the full details on our cancellation policy here.

Delivering your new lease car.

If you ordered a stock car, you’ll usually receive delivery much quicker than a factory order. A factory order vehicle will have to be made up especially for you, so you may have a longer wait for delivery. Once your lease car is ready to be delivered, we’ll let you know and you can expect your lease car to be dropped off, completely free of charge, to a UK mainland address of your choice. You can also arrange for somebody else to take delivery of your car – just let us know! Once the car has been delivered, you’re committed to your lease deal and the first payment (initial rental) will be due 10-14 days after you receive the car. Your monthly rental is due roughly one month after delivery, and you’ll pay this each month until your lease contract ends.

You can find more information on taking delivery of your lease car here.

Enjoying your lease!

So, you’ve got your lease car – what now? Now, you simply enjoy it. Put your best shades on, lean back in your seat, and cruise to your hearts content. Has anyone ever told you that you look great in a brand-new car?

During your lease agreement, you can contact any dealership for servicing, tyres, or warranty issues you might experience. For any issues with your contract (think payment dates, increasing your annual mileage, etc.) you’ll need to reach out to the leasing company. We’re still here to help too, so just gives us a shout if you need anything.

Renewing your lease contract.

When you’ve got around 12 months left to go on your lease contract, you’ll be hearing from us again (sorry, we’re clingy!). It’s time to order a new lease car so you’ll have enough time to factory order, and have it delivered as your contract ends, should you want to do this. We’re working quite far in advance at the minute as lead times have increased, so it’s best to get your order in early to receive your car as you need it.
