The Range Rover Sport Just Got Even Better – Meet the 27MY
The new Battersea Edition, a fresh six-cylinder petrol, and a brand new V8 – here's everything you need to know about the updated Range Rover Sport.
The Range Rover Sport Just Got Even Better – Meet the 27MY
We know, we know. Every time a new version of the Range Rover Sport lands, we say the same thing – 'this is the one, this is peak Range Rover Sport.' And then the next one turns up, and we have to do it all over again. So, apologies in advance, but this is the one. This is peak Range Rover Sport.
The 27MY has just been revealed, and it's headlined by something genuinely special – a brand new London Collection edition that draws inspiration from one of the capital's most iconic landmarks. There are also some proper powertrain updates, spec upgrades across the range, and a new V8 that we're really rather excited about. Let's get into it.
The Battersea Edition: London Energy in SUV Form
If you've ever walked past Battersea Power Station and thought, 'that would make a brilliant car,' then congratulations – Land Rover has essentially read your mind.
The new Range Rover Sport Battersea Edition is the latest chapter in the London Collection, and it's a genuinely striking thing. Sitting above the Dynamic SE in the lineup, it takes the industrial Art Deco bones of the Power Station and translates them into bold, contemporary design touches that feel every bit as considered as the building itself. It's that rare thing: a special edition that actually feels special.
On the outside, you get the full black treatment – Black Exterior Pack, black brake calipers, black contrast roof, and privacy glass, all finished with a set of 22" forged Style 5131 wheels in Satin Black with Gloss Black contrast. The 'Battersea Edition' etching on the exterior is subtle but distinctive, and the whole thing is available in five colours: Fuji White, Firenze Red, Santorini Black, Ostuni Pearl White, and Carpathian Grey. If you've ever wanted a Range Rover Sport that looks like it could handle both the King's Road and a black-tie event, this is probably it.
Step inside and the Battersea theme continues with illuminated 'Battersea Edition' treadplates and matching centre console scripting. For the interior itself, you've got two colour choices: Ebony Windsor leather with Pimento Red contrast stitching and seatbelts (which sounds fantastic, and looks it too), or Light Cloud Windsor leather with Cinder Grey stitching and Cloud seatbelts for something a bit cooler and more understated. Either way, it's a genuinely lovely place to spend time.
New Powertrains: A Fresh Six-Cylinder and a New V8
Beyond the London Collection drama, the 27MY brings some meaningful changes under the bonnet – and this is where things get properly interesting.
First up, there's a brand new P380 – a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol producing 380hp and 550Nm of torque, doing 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds with a 150mph top speed. It's a genuinely punchy addition that slots nicely into the range, offering real performance without going full V8. For a lot of people, this'll be the sweet spot.
Speaking of V8s, the old P530 and P615 are gone, replaced by the new P540 – a 4.4-litre V8 with 540hp, 750Nm of torque, and a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds. It'll do 155mph. It's the most performant version of the Sport in the 27MY lineup, and it's only available in Autobiography trim – which feels right, honestly. That's the kind of engine that deserves the full works around it.
The PHEV line-up gets a quiet but notable update too, with the petrol engine in both the P460e and P550e switching from the AJ20 to the new AJ22. Power outputs and WLTP emissions figures remain unchanged, so if you're already eyeing up a plug-in hybrid Sport, nothing here spoils your plans – it's just a better engine underneath.
Autobiography Gets a Proper Upgrade
If you were already considering the top of the range, the 27MY Autobiography is worth a closer look. Land Rover has standardised a number of features that were previously optional or not available at all, including Cabin Air Purification, Privacy Glass, Laminated front and rear side glass, Front fog lights, and a Powered Gesture Tailgate. The headlights have also been updated – Pixel LED with Signature DRL now replace the Digital LED with Signature DRL and Image Projection setup from the 26MY.
Exterior styling is carried over unchanged from the outgoing model, which is no bad thing – it's still a hugely handsome car. But the inside, and the standard spec sheet, have both moved on meaningfully.
