Audi Q2 Review
The Audi Q2 is the smallest SUV Audi makes, and that's really the reason to choose one. At just over 4.2 metres long, it gives you the higher seating position of an SUV without becoming a pain to park every time you head into town.
It is showing its age. The Q2 has been around since 2016, and the dashboard looks decidedly old-school next to newer Audi interiors. But we're not convinced that's entirely a bad thing. There are proper buttons for things you'll want to adjust while driving, and you don't have to learn your way around a giant touchscreen before you've left the car park.
There's a useful 405-litre boot too, although rear-seat space is less impressive. That puts the Q2 in an interesting spot: it's bigger and more practical than a small hatchback, but doesn't saddle you with the dimensions of a full-sized family SUV.
In this Audi Q2 review, we'll look at where its age is starting to tell, where the little Audi SUV still works surprisingly well and which versions we'd look for if you're considering an Audi Q2 lease.
Quick Verdict on the Audi Q2
The Audi Q2 is a small premium SUV that works really well around town. At just over 4.2 metres long, it’s easy to park and manoeuvre, but still feels comfortable and settled when you head onto the motorway.
Its age is most obvious inside. The dashboard looks dated next to newer Audi models and rear space is tight, although we actually like having physical controls for things you use regularly.
If you're considering an Audi Q2 lease, it’s a good fit if you mostly travel with one or two people and want an Audi SUV without moving up to the larger Q3.

Overall Rating: 8/10
The Q2 earns an 8/10 for combining genuinely useful compact dimensions with good motorway comfort and a 405-litre boot. Rear space and ageing technology are the main compromises, but neither is a deal-breaker if you don't regularly fill the back seats.
Audi Q2 at a Glance
The Audi Q2 is Audi’s smallest SUV, with five seats, a 405-litre boot and petrol engines producing up to 150 PS. At just over 4.2 metres long, it’s compact enough for tight streets and parking spaces without giving up the higher driving position you’d expect from an SUV.
| Audi Q2 | Specification |
|---|---|
| Body style | Compact SUV |
| Seats | 5 |
| Length | 4,208mm |
| Width | 1,794mm |
| Height | 1,508mm |
| Boot space | 405 litres |
| Boot space with rear seats folded | 1,050 litres |
| Fuel type | Petrol |
| Maximum power | Up to 150 PS |
| Transmission | Manual or S tronic automatic, depending on engine |
| 0–62mph | From 8.6 seconds |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
The Q2 hits a useful middle ground. You get enough boot space for shopping, luggage or day-to-day family stuff, but you’re not driving around in a bigger SUV than you actually need. For an Audi Q2 lease, that compact size is one of its biggest selling points for smaller families.
Who Should Lease the Audi Q2?
The Audi Q2 is a good car to lease if you want the higher driving position of an SUV without having to drive something much bigger than a hatchback. It works well for town driving, couples and smaller families, although rear space and older technology are the main compromises.
The Audi Q2 is a great choice if…
You want an SUV that’s genuinely easy to park
At just over 4.2 metres long, the Q2 is noticeably smaller than most family SUVs. That makes a real difference in multi-storeys and when you're trying to squeeze into the last decent supermarket parking space.
You don’t need a huge family car
There’s plenty of room up front and the 405-litre boot is useful for shopping, suitcases or a pushchair. If most journeys involve one or two people, you get useful SUV practicality without paying to lease or run a bigger car.
Your driving mixes town and motorway miles
The Q2 feels at home around town, but it doesn't turn into a noisy little runabout once you reach the motorway. It's settled enough at 70mph that we'd happily use one for a commute that mixes both.
You prefer buttons to doing everything on a screen
The Q2's dashboard is showing its age, but there is an upside. Physical controls make basic functions quick to adjust on the move, which we prefer to digging through touchscreen menus for something as simple as the heating.
The Audi Q2 may not be the best choice if…
You regularly carry adults in the back
Rear legroom is one of the Q2's bigger compromises. Adults will fit, but if you regularly travel four-up, we'd try the back seats before signing an Audi Q2 lease.
You want Audi’s latest interior technology
The Q2 can't hide the fact that it's an older model. Its cabin feels solid and straightforward, but newer Audi models and several rivals have much more modern displays and infotainment.
You need plenty of family space
A 405-litre boot is useful, but start adding a pushchair, luggage and everything else that travels with a family and you'll soon find its limits. If that's a normal weekend for you, the larger Q3 gives you more breathing room.
Audi Q2 Exterior Design & Road Presence
The Audi Q2 has a sharper, more angular look than Audi's larger SUVs. The wide Singleframe grille makes the family connection obvious, but the squared-off wheel arches and short overhangs give the Q2 a bit more character than simply looking like a shrunken Q3.
It also manages to look bigger than it really is. The Q2 doesn't take up much more road than a typical hatchback, yet the high waistline and chunky proportions give it a proper SUV stance.
Trim makes a difference here. S line models bring sportier bumpers and larger wheels, while Black Edition adds darker detailing for a more aggressive look. We'd still think twice before choosing the biggest wheels purely for appearance, though. You'll appreciate a little extra tyre sidewall when the roads get rough.
The Q2 has been around for several years, but we think the exterior has aged better than the interior. It still looks smart without trying too hard, and its compact footprint is something you'll appreciate every time an Audi Q2 lease takes you into a cramped multi-storey car park.
Audi Q2 Interior, Technology & Comfort
The Audi Q2 interior feels solid and comfortable, but its age is starting to show. The dashboard looks dated next to newer Audi models, although the physical climate controls are a welcome change from having everything buried in a touchscreen.
Quality is good where it matters, with some harder plastics lower down. You sit slightly higher than you would in an A3, with plenty of adjustment in the front seats and a good view of the road.
Depending on specification, you can also get the Audi Virtual Cockpit alongside the central infotainment display. Rear space is tighter, particularly for taller adults.
If you're considering an Audi Q2 lease, the interior won't wow you with the latest technology. But it's comfortable, well put together and refreshingly straightforward to use.
What’s the Audi Q2 Like to Drive?
The Audi Q2 is easy to drive, with light steering and compact dimensions that make it great around town. It feels more like a slightly raised hatchback than a bulky SUV, which takes much of the stress out of narrow streets and tight parking spaces.
On the motorway, the Q2 settles down nicely and the 150 PS petrol engine has useful extra power for overtaking.
Head onto a country road and it feels tidy and predictable rather than particularly sporty. That's no bad thing. For an Audi Q2 lease, we'd say the driving experience suits the car well: easy around town, comfortable on the motorway and reassuring everywhere in between.
Audi Q2 Engines & Performance
The Audi Q2 comes with petrol engines producing up to 150 PS, with manual and S tronic automatic gearboxes depending on the version. The lower-powered engine is plenty for town and everyday driving, while we'd look at the 150 PS model if your commute regularly takes you onto faster A-roads or motorways.
With up to 150 PS, the Q2 can reach 62mph in 8.6 seconds. That's more than quick enough for joining motorway traffic or overtaking without feeling like you're asking too much of the engine.
Gearbox choice is worth thinking about when comparing Audi Q2 lease deals. A manual may help keep the monthly cost down, but we'd be tempted by the S tronic automatic if you spend much of your week crawling through stop-start traffic.
There's little reason to pay for more performance than you'll use. For mostly urban driving, we'd prioritise price and efficiency; for regular motorway miles, the 150 PS engine is the one we'd look for.
Audi Q2 Fuel Economy & Running Costs
The Audi Q2 is reasonably economical for a small premium SUV, with petrol models returning roughly 40–45mpg depending on the engine and specification. Expect that figure to drop if most of your driving involves short trips or stop-start traffic.
There’s no hybrid option, but the Q2’s small size helps keep running costs sensible. We'd also think twice about larger alloy wheels, as replacement tyres can cost more.
When comparing Audi Q2 lease deals, look beyond the monthly payment. Your annual mileage, fuel costs and whether you add a maintenance package all affect what you'll actually spend over the lease.
Audi Q2 Practicality, Boot Space & Passenger Room
The Audi Q2 has a 405-litre boot, which is a decent size for such a compact SUV. There’s enough room for shopping, a couple of suitcases or a pushchair, and folding the rear seats increases capacity to an impressive 1,050 litres.
There’s plenty of space up front, but adults in the back may find legroom tight, particularly behind a taller driver. For couples and smaller families, that probably won't be an issue.
If you regularly fill every seat and the boot, we'd look at the larger Q3. Otherwise, the Q2 gives you useful everyday space without becoming a big car to park and manoeuvre.
Audi Q2 Reliability & Safety
The Audi Q2 uses well-established engines and technology shared across the wider Volkswagen Group. If you're taking out an Audi Q2 lease, you'll also typically spend much or all of the agreement within Audi's manufacturer warranty, depending on the term and mileage.
The Q2 originally earned five stars from Euro NCAP in 2016, although that rating has since expired as testing standards have moved on. Safety equipment varies by specification, with features including Audi pre sense front, cruise control and parking sensors.
We'd check the exact equipment fitted to any Q2 you're considering, especially now that availability is increasingly stock-dependent.
Audi Q2 Trim Levels Explained
The Audi Q2 is available in Sport, S line and Black Edition trims. Sport keeps things relatively simple, while S line and Black Edition add progressively sportier styling. When comparing Audi Q2 lease deals, we'd look at the monthly price difference rather than automatically paying for the highest trim.
| Audi Q2 trim | Best for |
|---|---|
| Sport | Keeping costs down without losing the premium feel |
| S line | A sportier look and a stronger overall specification |
| Black Edition | Maximum visual impact and a more distinctive finish |
Audi Q2 Sport
Sport is the sensible starting point. You still get the Q2's core equipment and premium feel without paying extra for styling upgrades. The smaller wheels may also give you a more comfortable ride.
Audi Q2 S line
S line adds sportier exterior details and larger wheels. It's the sweet spot if you want the Q2 to look a little sharper, although those bigger wheels can make rough roads more noticeable.
Audi Q2 Black Edition
Black Edition adds darker exterior details for a more aggressive look. We'd compare the lease price carefully, though. You're mainly paying for styling rather than a dramatically different car.
Which Audi Q2 Trim Is Best for Leasing?
S line will probably appeal to most of our Audi Q2 lease customers, but don't choose on trim name alone. Lease pricing can throw up some odd bargains, so compare Sport, S line and Black Edition side by side. With the Q2 now subject to stock availability, the best deal may also depend on which versions are actually available.
Audi Q2 vs the Competition
The Audi Q2 competes with small SUVs such as the Volkswagen T-Roc, MINI Countryman and BMW X1. The Q2 is smaller than all three, so its main advantage is that you get a premium SUV that's genuinely compact and easy to live with around town.
| Model | What it does well | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Audi Q2 | Compact, easy to drive, premium feel | Older interior, tighter rear seats |
| Volkswagen T-Roc | More space, newer technology | Larger than the Q2 |
| MINI Countryman | Distinctive design, spacious cabin | Considerably bigger |
| BMW X1 | Practical, modern and more powerful options | Bigger and more expensive territory |
Is the Audi Q2 Worth Leasing?
The Audi Q2 is worth leasing if you want a small premium SUV that's easy to drive and genuinely compact. An Audi Q2 lease suits drivers who value Audi build quality and manageable dimensions more than having the latest interior technology or lots of rear-seat space.
The Q2 is showing its age, particularly inside, but there are benefits to its old-school approach. We like the physical controls, the 405-litre boot is useful and it's comfortable enough to handle motorway journeys without feeling like a city car.
We'd compare the available lease deals carefully. With the Q2 now subject to stock availability, your choice of engine and trim may be limited. But if the price is right, our Audi Q2 review finds there's still plenty to like about Audi's smallest SUV.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Audi Q2
Is the Audi Q2 a good car to lease?
The Audi Q2 is a good car to lease if you want a small premium SUV that's easy to drive and park. An Audi Q2 lease gives you the higher driving position of an SUV without moving up to the larger Q3 or Q5.
Is the Audi Q2 a good family car?
The Audi Q2 works well for smaller families, with five seats and a useful 405-litre boot. Rear legroom is fairly tight, though, so we'd look at the Q3 if you regularly carry older children or adults.
How big is the Audi Q2 boot?
The Audi Q2 has a 405-litre boot with the rear seats upright. Fold them down and capacity increases to 1,050 litres, giving you useful extra space for bulkier loads.
Is the Audi Q2 bigger than the Audi Q3?
No. At 4,208mm long, the Audi Q2 is more than 30cm shorter than the latest Q3. That makes the Q2 easier to park and manoeuvre, while the Q3 gives you more passenger and luggage space.
What is the fuel economy of the Audi Q2?
Petrol Audi Q2 models return roughly 40–45mpg under WLTP testing, depending on the engine and specification. Expect real-world economy to vary with traffic, journey length and driving style.
Which Audi Q2 engine is best?
For mainly town driving, we'd stick with the lower-powered petrol engine. If you regularly use motorways or faster A-roads, the 150 PS petrol gives you more useful performance for joining traffic and overtaking.
Is the Audi Q2 good for motorway driving?
Yes. The Audi Q2 feels settled and comfortable at motorway speeds despite its compact size. We'd favour the 150 PS petrol engine if motorway journeys make up a large part of your weekly mileage.
Is the Audi Q2 being discontinued?
The current Audi Q2 is reaching the end of its production life, and Audi UK lists the model as subject to stock availability. That means the choice of new Q2 engines, trims and specifications may become more limited as remaining stock is sold.
